FAQs

Q:  When may I apply?

A:  You may apply at any time, but admission is for Spring and Fall semesters only.

Q:  If I’ve been accepted in the MSME or PhD program, do I need to apply to the certificate separately?

A:  Yes.

Q:  I’ve already taken some of these courses.  Can I apply them to the certificate?

A:  Up to 6 hours of coursework that was completed before admission into the certificate program can be applied to the certificate. A graduate petition should be initiated by the student to perform this application of credit.

Q:  I live a long way from the UNC Charlotte main campus.  Are there options for distance learning?

A:  We have the ability to allow registered students to view the lectures “live” and to participate in the classes.  Many metrology classes have a “hands-on” component that is central to the course material.  Opportunities for you to complete this work will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.  If you wish to take advantage of this option, please alert us in advance, as there are limited classrooms that support the “live” delivery option.

Important:  Although you would be taking the class from a remote location, the resources required to teach the courses (including labs) are the same as if you were here with us.  For this reason, these are not considered “Distance Education” courses, and the tuition and fees for these courses are according to the “Main Campus” schedule.
